Sidonie, Doctor Prats, Ginestà, Suu, Flashy Ice Cream, Sexenni and Alfred Garcia headline the Estrella Damm Sant Jordi Musical line-up
On 23 April, the old Estrella Damm Brewery will once again be buzzing with more than 20 live performances, not to mention record and book signings, roses and a range of food options with something for all tastes
There are many ways to experience Sant Jordi, but only one way brings them all together: Estrella Damm's Sant Jordi Musical. Once again, this year, on 23 April, the Estrella Damm Old Brewery will have one of the most comprehensive line-ups to help you enjoy the local festival, with more than eight hours of non-stop music, as well as record signings, a wide range of food and, of course, books and roses the proceeds of which will go to charity.
From midday until 21:00, up to 22 artists will perform on the different stages at 515 Carrer Rosselló in Barcelona, in what promises to be the city's best Sant Jordi event. Highlights include Sidonie, one of Spanish indie's leading bands with their fresh and carefree sound, and Doctor Prats, set to visit the Old Brewery to promote their new album, F5, and kick off their new tour around Catalonia. There will also be new music from Ginestà, with their latest EP Només viure; Suu, who released their latest album Material Sensible two months ago; and Flashy Ice Cream from Sabadell, one of Catalonia's trailblazing trap and urban pop bands. Also on the line-up are Sexenni, who will be performing songs from their third studio album, Joc de nens, and Alfred Garcia, with his singer-songwriter-style pop with rock influences and alternative sounds.
There's nowhere quite like Estrella Damm's Sant Jordi Musical to discover new talents, including Sofia Coll, FADES, Xicu and Roserona, not to mention performances by Dan Peralbo i El Comboi, Remei de Ca la Fresca and Will Xo. Throughout the day, attendees will also get the chance to discover the voices of Lluc, Gigi Ros, Jo Jet and Maria Ribot, Alosa, Joana Dark, Pribiz, Cai Godayol and Vista Rey, who will cap off a special day bursting with music.
As well as live performances, there will be record signing sessions, not only by the artists and bands performing; but also by other artists coming especially to sign their records and meet their fans. These artists include Els Amics de les Arts, Miki Núñez and The Tyets.
As is now tradition, food and drink will also be a big part of Estrella Damm's Sant Jordi Musical. Everyone visiting the former brewery site will be able to savour a wide selection of food options, including vegan and gluten-free, rustled up by local food trucks. Options include Chalito's breaded chicken milanesas, Fileteando's burgers, and sweet and savoury crepes by Maria una Crep.
A Sant Jordi with a spirit of solidarity
The Estrella Damm Old Brewery will also have a charity market where you can buy roses (natural and handmade) second-hand books and other gifts inspired by the Sant Jordi festival, produced by different social organisations such as Apunts, Fundació Amics de la Gent Gran, Fundació Arrels, Fundació Finestrelles, Fundació Portolà, Fundación Vicente Ferrer and Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona. This year, in collaboration with the Associació Saó Prat, and following the success of last year's event, there will be another workshop on how to customise cloth bags.
Profits from the fair trade market will go to the Red Cross' Extreme Vulnerability Programme, that sees to people needing urgent help to cover their basic needs, either because of their vulnerable situation or a social emergency.
Damm has also organised a book collection among the company's collaborators as part of the Recicla Cultura campaign, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Escola Pia de Catalunya to offer reception and leisure activities and non-formal training to young people in situations of social vulnerability.
Admission to the Sant Jordi Musical at the Estrella Damm Old Brewery is free. As this is a closed venue, admission will be limited until full capacity is reached.
