The Sant Jordi Musical returns to the Estrella Damm Old Brewery
After two years of being held, Estrella Damm is once again organising the Sant Jordi Musical, extending its programme with two days of festivities full of music, gastronomy, books and roses
Sant Jordi (St George's Day) is approaching and, as has become a tradition in the city of Barcelona, the Estrella Damm Old Brewery will once again be filled with the best musical proposals in a new edition of the Sant Jordi Musical. On 23 and 24 April at 11:30, 515 Carrer Rosselló will open its doors to all those who want to enjoy live performances by 44 artists and bands, as well as the best food from local foodtrucks. And, as usual on this day, there will be a market of vinyl, books and roses, the latter for charity.
Concerts by Joan Dausà, La Pegatina, Suu, Mishima, Blaumut, Sara Roy, 31 FAM and Lildami are just a small sample of the performances that will take place during the Sant Jordi weekend on the four stages of the old brewery site. Marcel i Júlia, who recently won the Disc Català de l'Any 2021 for "En òrbita", will also be there. They are composers of "Per la vida" - the song that provides the music for Estrella Damm's Sant Jordi campaign which can already be seen on social networks and digital media. These performances will be complemented by record signings - both by the artists and bands that will be performing and others who have come especially to sign their work - by Itaca Band, Loquillo, Maruja Limón, El Pony Pisador, The Crab Apples, Pepet i Marieta and La Ludwing Band, among others.
When hunger pangs strike, all those who visit the Old Brewery can visit the food trucks of Fileteando, Fish&Chips, Indi Food Truck, Las Muns, María Una Crep and Una Pizza, which will offer a wide variety of gastronomic proposals - including veggie and gluten-free options - to accompany Estrella Damm at all times during the day.
On a day as special as Sant Jordi Musical, we could not miss the sale of roses, books - from the bookshop Abracadabra - and also second-hand vinyl from Firadisc, Quarantena Edicions and Vinils Tairi.
Admission to the Sant Jordi Musical at the Estrella Damm Old Brewery is free. As this is a closed venue, admission will be limited until full capacity is reached.
A Sant Jordi also in solidarity
The Sant Jordi roses that will be sold at the Estrella Damm Old Brewery on the weekend of 23 and 24 April will be for charity. Fundació Gaspar de Portolà will provide both natural roses and handmade roses made with different materials; Solidaritat Sant Joan de Déu will provide different handmade details with a Sant Jordi theme, and Amics de la Gent Gran will provide the well-known "Roses contra l'oblit" (Roses against oblivion), handmade brooches made with felt in different colours. All proceeds will go to the Red Cross to provide humanitarian aid to displaced people and civilians in Ukraine.
In addition, Damm has organised a collection of books among the company's collaborators as part of the Recicla Cultura campaign - promoted by the Fundació Servei Solidari - the profits from the sale of which will go to literacy programmes for people at risk of social exclusion.
