The Fundación Damm donates towels and T-shirts to the Red Cross
They will be used to meet the basic needs of the people the NGO serves
On 29 March the Fundación Damm donated 535 towels and 69 T-shirts to the Red Cross in Catalonia, which will be used to meet the basic needs of the people the humanitarian institution cares for.
Delivering the donation to get a closer look at the work of the Red Cross, Àlex Galí, general coordinator of the Fundación Damm, visited the organisation's Humanitarian Logistics Platform in Sant Martí de Tous (Barcelona), from where aid is distributed throughout Catalonia. This work has increased in the past year due to the Covid-19-induced health crisis; more than two million kilos of food have been distributed throughout Catalonia.
Helena Fontanet, secretary-general of the Red Cross in Catalonia, accompanied by Juan Antonio García, head of the Humanitarian Centre, and Francesc Balcells, representing the volunteers, showed Galí the day-to-day running of the logistics warehouse. They deal with health emergencies and it aims to become a centre for training response teams as well as a space for awareness-raising and distribution open to visits from groups and institutions.
Last December, Ramón Anejo, vice president of the Fundación Damm, received the Distinction of Honour from Josep Quitet, president of the Red Cross in Catalonia, for the support of the Fundación Damm to the Red Cross' RESPONDE programme. It aimed to manage the health crisis caused by Covid-19, which had already distributed basic aid to more than 700,000 people in Catalonia and three million in the rest of Spain.
