Estrella de Levante switches on solar plant to supply own energy
The Espinardo brewery solar plant is the largest in Murcia
Estrella de Levante has presented a 250kWp* solar plant at the Espinardo brewery, the largest solar plant for self-supply in Murcia.
Solar panels have been installed on the roof of the brewery’s bottling area. They will help the company save on its electricity bill and protect the environment. The system will be fully monitored and can be controlled via mobile devices.
The company has also announced that it plans to build a second 270kWp plant, which it expects to start up shortly. In total, the brewery will have about 650kWp of renewable energy, when the new solar plants and the biogas turbines that are already operational are combined.
Estrella de Levante's intention is to become self-sufficient, to consolidate its commitment to sustainability and to caring for the environment. It is estimated that energy production could reach approximately 374,900kWh. The Espinardo brewery is the first solar plant to exceed 100kWp in Murcia.
Pedro Marín, Managing Director of Estrella de Levante, highlighted that, “our commitment to sustainability and energy eco-efficiency is a priority for our company. This photovoltaic plant, which has been made possible thanks to the the aid programme aimed at promoting the use of renewable energy in Murcia, is added to the energy we generate from microturbines using biogas resulting from our wastewater treatment process, which supplies 100% of the electricity needs of the treatment plant. Our intention is to continue investing in renewable energies and to expand the current photovoltaic plant by an additional 250kWp so that we have more than 650kWp of self-supplied energy.”
Estrella de Levante has made a very strong commitment to reducing energy costs and to eco-efficiency, reducing water consumption ratios by 60% and energy consumption by 33% in the last 10 years.
*kWp - kilowatt-peak - is the maximum energy that a panel or group of solar panels generates.
