Estrella de Levante's "Sala de Catas" hosted the final of the II Beer Pouring Contest organised by the Murcian brand. The 10 finalists, from among the 372 candidates, competed at the brewery's facilities for the best beer pourer award during an event hosted by Antonio Hidalgo.
Registration for the contest began on April 27 through Bar Manager, the app shared by all of Estrella de Levante's clients. In order to participate, hospitality professionals had but to upload a video in which they could be seen pouring a beer. A new twist this year was the participation of more than one candidate from the same venue, as well as the inclusion of the provinces of Albacete, Alicante and Almería, in addition to the region of Murcia, in the search for the best poured beer.
The winner of this second edition was Aurora Escudero, from Larvi restaurant in Cartagena, who received a check in the amount of 2,000 euros. Second place went to Daniel Gianluca, from Apicoco Bar & Grill in Playa Honda, with third going to Jose Alberto del Cerro from El Pollo Rockero restaurant in Javalí Nuevo, who received 1,000 and 500 euros respectively.
The jury for this edition was comprised of Pachi Larrosa, gastronomic journalist; Albert Forges, head of quality for Mercado Horeca; Silvia Abenza, head of quality at Estrella de Levante; Cristina Marín, head of sales at Estrella de Levante and Luis Pérez, professor at the Hospitality and Tourism School of IES La Flota.
The judges took into account different criteria to score the pouring by the contestants, such as the technique used: opening of the tap, inclination of the glass, pressure, etc., as well as the presence of bubbles, good practices during the pouring process or the presentation of the draft on the bar, among others. Furthermore, the most liked videos by the public were awarded the "Most Beloved Bar in Albacete, Almería and the region of Murcia" mentions, where Zayra Café won for Albacete, restaurant El Buen Sazón for Almería and La terraza del gato bar in Cartagena.
A contest by means of which Estrella de Levante wishes to add value to the work by hospitality professionals, as well as to good beer pouring, so that fans of its products can enjoy all of their nuances.
